Field Report - From the Trenches

I would like to take a moment to recognize the hard working field reporter who risks life and limb (OK, sometimes precious minutes of their life but hey I am grateful) to get the story.

Winnie of Winnie's Litter comments:

Two or three nights ago about dark, right before we closed the blinds my husband said "What is that?" pointing across the street to the neighbor's yard.  "It a light and it keeps changing colors."  I take a gander and recognize it as some sort of solar LED yard art and ID'd it for him.  This is not a yard with any "art" in fact I haven't even seen the the little glow thing in daylight it is so unobtrusive.

Tonight we were sitting on the front porch and we hear the neighbor come out with her teenage son and say, " I'll have to get my camera"   well didn't think much about it, but then I see camera flashes going off constantly in the yard, you'd think Prince William and Kate were over there.  I sit up and take a closer look and I could see the screen of her camera glowing and realized she was taking a picture of the light changing orb everytime it changed colors.  HA, so if you get a pictures of a multi-colored orb sent in, that was my across the street neighbor reporting on her own LED crystal ball thingy.  I don't really have a good thing to call it - maybe LED hillbilly ball?  I'd go take some pictures myself but these people are always home and they have a loud Labrador retriever, not scary just loud.

I have not seen a report of a glowing Hillbilly ball but I would like to refresh your memory of a piece of my collection (and former give-a-away) which has the same effect to help you visualize:

(please note: I am NOT giving one away at this moment)

This is the degree of dedication given by a Yard Art Game field reporter

  1. I don't think I have what it takes... I'm afraid of water, my camera's too small and the video of the glowing thing didn't stir any kind of emotion.

  2. b-a-g, you have no yard art soul. You really mean the glow in the dark, changing color solar rod on a stick did not stir your figuratively speaking loins?

  3. HEy! I have "glowing color changing orbs"...6 of them. Matter of fact, just changed the batteries a couple of days ago cause they stopped working over the winter. If you have never seen them before, they can be a bit wierdly random when driving down a dark back road......

  5. The stick. The stick. I am mesmerized by the stick.

I am actually considering raking some tall grass into a nest shape and filling it with solar light balls. Nice, tasteful white ones, of course. (LOL) Whadda ya think?

And someone needs to take that amazing camera rig away from the crazy person. I'm sure it cost more than my car,and it's IN.THE.WATER? WTF??

  6. MyMaracas... I KNOW. I love my stick but Jester is right, you do have to replace the little battery.

  7. Today I went to the mecca of glowing yard art things. I was waiting on my car to be worked on and the store was next door. HONEST INJUN they had a GIANT color changing hill billy ball. I am not exagerating when I tell you the thing was 24 inches across or more. Now that thing was creepy. I would have gotten pictures but I only have a really crappy phone on my camera and haven't figured out how to get the pictures off of it. I also saw so many LED light changing yard art thingys it would make your head spin. I am also happy to report that the gnome lady in the next town has taken her gnomes out of winter storage. I will have my camera with me the next trip to the "big" city.

  8. Oh and MyMaracas, my take on tasteful white has always been that one does not have enough guts for full color. (I have the same opinion at Christmas which is why my nice tasteful neighborhood shudders when they drive by my house.)

Winnie, I am beginning to think that you are a great big tease.

  9. no teasing, I've been eyeballing that gnome house since last fall, I finally remember my camera and they had picked up all the gnomes for the winter. They are back now however and I will get a picture of them.

As for the giant color changing ball - here's a wholesale supplier for you

  10. Winnie, there is a minimum order of a hundred balls. We could have a huge party!

  11. Winnie, Winnie, Winnie - dontcha think Mom was getting her camera to take bizarre photos of her own yard lights so her teenage son could post them on Facebook and claim aliens had landed in his yard?

b-a-g, you're coming up with more excuses than I have for not taking pix!!!

  12. This is kinda funny, because for my birthday a couple days ago, I got an led butterfly. I set the thing out and come nightfall, the thing glowed just like your video. A friend gave it to me that lives in my neighborhood.

  13. Mom L, teenage son could have taken the pictures of the yard lights for Mom, so Mom could have posted them on Facebook.

and I agee, b-a-g time to pony up to the bar.

gwgt, I was admiring a glowing hummingbird the other day. I almost bought it but I am trying to control my glowing obsession. I would not want any airplanes landing in my backyard at night.

  14. You're right. No guts, no glory. Alien-colored glowing light ball/eggs it is.

  15. I think the owner of this stick might also have a t-shirt that reads "We're the aliens, not them!!"

  17. I had a butterfly and a dragonfly that glowed in the dark. They were solar powered but my dogs chewed them up. What's new?

  20. Mymaracas, you know the drill. Send in the pictures.

Karen, It is awesome and it entertainments me. I tried to find some glowing orbs things to put in my koi pond but the guy at the pond store look at me horrified...the puritan.

One, So far my stick has not interested the dogs. The spend their time trying to catch frogs.

and thanks, I'll pop over and see what comments were selected for this week.

catmint, My video does not lie, it is a yard art seducer. The water thing is a bit extreme.
